• RoadSafe is a road safety partnership of leading companies
in the motor and transport industries in Britain, the government and
road safety professionals. It aims to reduce deaths and injuries caused
on the road and promote safer road use.
• RoadSafe was established in 2001. 2002 was the first full
year of operation and we have addressed our main effort to developing
relationships with the road safety community.
• RoadSafe is unique in that it provides the only mechanism
for a wide range of stakeholders to develop a common understanding
and to work together to reduce unnecessary death and injury on our
roads and through which sponsors are able to demonstrate their commitment
to improved safety.
• RoadSafe is a forum for promoting and devising solutions to
road safety problems through the development of partnerships and sharing
best practice.
• RoadSafe organises a number of programmes to promote and share
best practice and transfer knowledge, amongst these is the Prince
Michael International Awards scheme. Other activities include regular
“expert” meetings, an e-mail newsletter and a magazine.
Primary Objectives
• To build partnerships with road safety professionals, the
media and government.
• To promote best practice.
• To demonstrate the commitment of sponsors to social responsibility
in the field of road safety and traffic management.
Partnerships
Roadsafe has quickly built credibility with the road safety community,
who are eager to work together with the powerful support of our sponsors.
There is a lack of knowledge and understanding of what each party
is doing and is able to do to – the transfer of knowledge and
a better mutual understanding of what each partner can offer are essential.
Many organisations have already derived great benefit from the developing
partnerships.
Working with Government: We are committed
to work in partnership to support of the Government’s Road Safety
Strategy. RoadSafe is recognised as a “partner” by The
Department for Transport (DfT); Working with The Police: A close working
relationship has been established with the Association of Chief Police
Officers through joint work in a number of areas.
Supporting Road Safety Professionals: RoadSafe
is itself represented on a number of professional bodies including
The Association of Industrial Road Safety Officers, The Institute
of Road Safety Officers, The Institute of Advanced Motorists, the
Parliamentary Advisory Committee for Transport Safety and RoSPA. Partnerships
also exist with The AA Foundation for Road Safety Research and The
RAC Foundation for Motoring. Many of these are also represented on
our Advisory Board.
Developing Relationships with The Media:
A regular programme of media briefings, broadcast opportunities and
one to one meetings with the Chairman supported by media releases,
commenting on road safety news or events and emphasising what is currently
being done by sponsors will remain a regular element of the business
Promoting Best Practice: RoadSafe must be
seen to support and promote best practice notably that which has been
endorsed within the Road Safety Strategy
Website: www.roadsafe.com launched in 2000
is now regularly visited and provides an essential tool for communication
with interested parties
Conferences and Sponsorship: We actively
seek opportunities, support and sponsorship opportunities
Demonstrating the commitment of sponsors to improved
road safety: The main programmes established to achieve the
first two objectives are designed to achieve this third objective.
