Cutting costs and keeping safe

TALEX has launched the UK’s most affordable, voice-based safety camera detection system – a new GPS-based unit that helps motorists stay safe and legal

Up-to-date information can be downloaded on to the unit
“The TALEX unit was praised as a ‘brilliant debut for a new name at a good price’”
With more safety cameras springing up alongside the UK’s congested roads, growing numbers of drivers are turning to Global Positioning System (GPS)-based safety camera detection devices to help them stay safe and legal. However, for many motorists, the cost of these devices can be prohibitively expensive, with most units priced between £350 and £500.

That is all set to change with the launch of TALEX, the UK’s most affordable, voice-based safety camera warning system, which costs just £249 including VAT. TALEX is a compact, easy-to-use unit that warns drivers of both fixed and mobile safety camera sites, accident black spots, nearby schools and congestion charging zones. This not only helps drivers to anticipate dangerous sections of road, but also provides valuable protection against unnecessary fines and – more significantly – licence penalty points.

Recommendations
The system is also one of only two “plug and play” units to be recommended by Auto Express magazine in a recent test of 11 GPS-based safety camera locator systems. The test involved reviewing each unit’s ability to detect both fixed and mobile camera sites. Marks were also awarded for features such as a GPS speed check, clarity of voice warnings and the data update subscription period included with each unit, as well as the cost of then extending the subscription. The TALEX unit was praised as a “brilliant debut for a new name at a good price” and the unit’s clear voice warnings and GPS speedometer were noted as useful features. Auto Express also recommended TALEX as being “ideal for those buyers on a tight budget”.

Easy to install and use
TALEX takes less than a minute to install, thanks to its easy “plug and play” operation. The unit uses a voice announcement to warn the driver when they are within 500 yards of a safety camera, and also confirms what the speed limit is on that section of road. If the vehicle is exceeding the speed limit 200 yards prior to the camera, the system will advise the driver to slow down. TALEX also sounds an alert to confirm when the vehicle has safely passed the camera.

“The achievement of 'recommended' status from ‘Auto Express’ is a fantastic endorsement for TALEX”

Simple to update
Up-to-date information on new safety camera positions and accident blackspots can be downloaded on to the unit by plugging it into a PC using the cable provided and then visiting the relevant section of the TALEX website. All new TALEX systems come supplied with six months’ subscription for updates, which can be renewed for just £29 for 12 months, or £59 for three years – much cheaper than most other GPS-based systems on the market. A professional survey team of experienced former traffic police officers continually updates the TALEX safety camera database.

About TALEX
TALEX was co-founded by Richard Ward and Nigel Carter, both of whom are local to Maidstone in Kent. Richard and Nigel came from diverse backgrounds: Nigel from the GPS industry and Richard from the retail sector. Both joined forces to form TALEX in 2004. They recognised a market for a sensibly-priced, safety camera warning system based on the very latest technology that would remain totally legal, both now and in the future.

Staying safe and legal

“With over 5,000 fixed safety cameras and over 250 mobile units operating at almost 3,000 sites across the UK, generating more than £100m in fines last year, no driver can afford to ignore this risk to their licence and, potentially, their livelihood. By introducing TALEX for just £249, we have made the latest GPS-based safety camera detection technology affordable for all motorists, helping them to stay safe and legal on the road. “The achievement of ‘recommended’ status from Auto Express is a fantastic endorsement for TALEX and confirms our philosophy of making the latest GPS-based safety camera detection technology available to all motorists. Recent reports of temporary cameras on the A27 at Falmer, East Sussex, capturing around 12,500 speeding motorists and generating fines of £750,000 in just two months, are a powerful reminder of the need for drivers to remain aware of their speed at all times. TALEX enables motorists to ensure they stay safe and legal on the road, at a price that won’t break the bank.”
