The Seed Change in Safety |
|
|
| In our last article we spoke about the issues
on how SAFETY is perceived in the wider area and how that word
SAFETY still puts the fear of god into people. |

| After all it is life we are dealing
with, not pieces of machinery. Your biggest assets are
your people. Without them you fail. With them you succeed. |

If our calls from the last issue of ROADSAFE are anything to go by
there appears to be a trickle of change filtering through the more
pro-active companies in actually wanting to improve their SAFETY agenda,
when it comes to protecting their staff, which we loudly applaud.
This change appears to come from the fear of litigation. Again it’s
that word fear that is driving the change. There is a real need to
go beyond the European Standard of EN471 when it comes to what the
individual has to wear. This is the 21st Century and we now have to
move forward to a more pro-active type of clothing rather that the
re-active that is the normal now.
What do we mean by re-active and pro-active clothing? EN 471 Class
1, 2 and 3 uses a measurement of re-activity. In other words lights
have to strike you before you become visible. In pro-active clothing
the individual is lit, therefore he/she is seen long before lights
hit their clothing to make them visible. Pro-active clothing makes
the individual so visible, regardless of the weather conditions or
the environment that they cannot fail to be seen.
After all it is life we are dealing with, not pieces of machinery.
Your biggest assets are your people. Without them you fail. With them
you succeed. Look after them and protect them and you have a win win
scenario. In law it is called “a duty of care”.
More and more companies see EN 471 Class 3 as a start rather than
an end are approaching us in ever greater numbers. They have a need
to go beyond the legal standard. That way if anything does go wrong,
they can stand up with absolute confidence and say that they have
exercised their “DUTY OF CARE” to its full extent, by
going beyond EN 471.
You may be surprised to know that Pro-active clothing is already out
there and available and is in daily use with some very large companies.
Its name is “FLASHBRIGHT PRO-ACTIVE”. This system utilises
the very latest in emitter and optical technology called “PULSELITES”.
“FLASHBRIGHT PRO-ACTIVE” is available in standard designs
or can be retro-fitted to existing clothing, thereby avoiding the
need to purchase further garments. It is so versatile it has already
been fitted to vehicle ramps, safety helmets, office escape equipment
with built in smoke detectors and many more areas where high visibility
light is required
It’s astonishing performance is achieved by utilising high-end
spectrum, pure colour LED’s firing through an optical lens.
And no it is not nuclear powered, but uses standard AA batteries,
operating at a maximum 4. 8volts. Space age design and technology
that has been brought together and specifically developed to HELP
SAVE LIFE, YOUR LIFE.
“FLASHBRIGHT PRO-ACTIVE” along with its associated systems
can help save lives, so for more information please call. You have
nothing to lose but everything to gain. Just remember. “ITS
YOUR LIFE, SO PROTECT IT”
